Three trees that do the job.
We’ll help you pick the right one for your space, your sun and how fast you want the privacy.
Green Giant Arborvitae
Grows fast, up to 3 feet a year, and gets tall and wide. Best when you have room and want privacy soon.
Emerald Green Arborvitae
Slower and skinny, about 3 to 4 feet wide. Good for tight side yards and along fences.
Leyland Cypress
One of the fastest evergreens around, but it gets big. Best for long property lines with plenty of room.
Gaps close in a few seasons
Once established, Green Giants put on about 2 to 3 feet a year and Leylands about 2 to 4. Emerald Greens grow slower, about 6 to 12 inches.

Good to know.
How fast will they fill in?
It depends on the tree and the spacing. Green Giants and Leylands usually close the gaps in 2 to 3 years. Emerald Greens take a little longer.
When is the best time to plant?
Fall and spring. It’s cooler, so the roots can settle in before summer heat. We plant both seasons.
How much do I water the first year?
A lot. Give them a deep soak 2 to 3 times a week the first summer, more when it’s hot and dry. We’ll give you a simple watering plan when we finish.
What’s the proper spacing for privacy trees?
It depends on the tree and how fast you want the screen. Green Giant arborvitae: about 8 to 10 feet apart. They get 12 to 20 feet wide, so the row still closes in. For a faster screen, many nurseries plant them closer, about 5 to 6 feet. Emerald Green arborvitae: about 5 to 6 feet apart, or about 3 to 4 feet for a tight hedge. Leyland cypress: about 10 to 15 feet apart, because they get big.
How much does a new landscape cost?
It depends on how many trees you need, the variety and the size you pick. For example, a recent job was a row of 13 trees. We’ll measure the line and help you pick the right tree, then give you a price. For a free estimate, fill out the short form on this page or call or text 609-412-8143.
